Bloom 2025 : Sponsored by the EU

I’ve just returned from an unforgettable few days at Bloom 2025 — Ireland’s premier garden and lifestyle show — where I had the privilege of designing and presenting a garden that celebrated circular economy principles and sustainable garden design.

This project was an opportunity to showcase how thoughtful design, recycled materials, and ecological planting can work together to create a beautiful, functional, and low-impact garden.

A Garden Built on Circular Economy Principles

My Bloom 2025 show garden was designed to tell a powerful story:

👉 Reuse what already exists👉 Design for longevity and adaptability👉 Prioritise biodiversity and soil health👉 Minimise waste during and after the build

From reclaimed railway tracks and repurposed scaffold boards to circular planting choices that encourage wildlife and reduce maintenance, every element of the garden was chosen with purpose.

The response was incredible — visitors were engaged, inspired, and eager to learn more about how these ideas can be applied in home gardens and public spaces.

Why Sustainable Garden Design Matters

Events like Bloom show how urgently we need to rethink how we design outdoor spaces.

By embracing circular economy garden design, we can:

  • Reduce the carbon footprint of hard landscaping

  • Support local ecosystems and biodiversity

  • Create gardens that age beautifully and sustainably

  • Educate and inspire the public about practical, positive change

I was thrilled to contribute to this conversation at such a well-attended and respected event.

Grateful for the Warm Irish Welcome

One of the standout aspects of this experience was the sheer warmth and generosity of the Irish people.

Visitors, fellow designers, and organisers alike made this event a joy to be part of. I genuinely can’t wait to return to Ireland for future projects and collaborations.

A Team Effort

Sustainable design is always a collaborative effort, and I could not have delivered this project without the support of some incredible partners:

  • @conquestspaces – Ross and team brought the garden to life with expert craftsmanship and tireless dedication.

  • The European Commission – whose sponsorship and belief in the message helped make this project possible.

  • The Rediscovery Centre – whose input and support were invaluable.

  • Caroline – a dear friend who flew out to lend a hand during a challenging moment. Thank you!

Building Lasting Connections

Beyond the garden itself, Bloom 2025 offered an amazing opportunity to connect with others passionate about sustainable landscape design and circular economy thinking.

The conversations, ideas, and new relationships built during the show will fuel future projects and collaborations.

Special Thanks to Our Partners

A huge thank you also to the following organisations and businesses for their fantastic support:

@cedstonelandscape @kenoteq@tully_nurseries

@gardenworldnurseries @caraghnurseriesire@rediscoveryctr @euireland @farmhouse.gardener @bordbiabloomAnd a very special thanks to @kerriegardiner — none of this would have been possible without your vision and leadership.

Looking Ahead

Bloom 2025 reinforced my belief that circular economy principles must become central to how we design and build gardens.

As a sustainable garden designer, I will continue to champion these ideas and work with clients and collaborators who share this vision.

If you’re interested in exploring how a circular economy garden could transform your space — whether public or private — I’d love to start a conversation.

Let’s design for the future. 🌿
